The Magical Era of Doordarshan Serials – Part 1. The TV serials telecast on Doordarshan during the 1980s had such a universal appeal that we are still nostalgic about them. Here is a list of TV shows from the golden era of DD National channel. Bava Mardadallu is a musical comedy show which aired on the Doordarshan channel. The series featured small comedy skits interspersed with various movie songs from hit Telugu language films. The features consisted of a number of funny scenarios. The 80s was the era of Doordarshan with soaps like Hum Log, Buniyaad and comedy shows like Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi which made Doordarshan a household name. Circus, Gul Gulshan Gulfam and Nukkad are some of the serials that come instantly to my mind when I think of the good old days of Doordarshan.

Anando Brahma is a Telugu comedy serial broadcasted on Doordarshan in 1980’s. It is a direction by the famous Indian comedian and actor, Dharmavarapu Subramanyam, he also enacted in the serial along with Suthi Velu and Ashok Rao. Subramanyam is a comic character who is known for his comedy. The motive of his plots relies on the comical satisfaction of his viewers, as evidence, the great enactor has appeared in 870 Telugu films which are all made in the genre of comedy. It takes not only talent but also the heart of gold to make people laugh, and such is the quality of this actor, specifically in Anando Brahma.
Anando Brahma is a series of comical representation of issues relating to the day-to-day life of men. It does not follow a story which needs a sequential order, rather is an open serial which can entertain anytime from any episode, it will leave the viewer smiling without any pressures of storyline that needs curiosity and unfolding. Subramanyam is a great artist, he hs put his effort t bring out humour and sarcasm in a very light manner, without hurting the sentiments of any class or tradition. His writing of the episodic comedy arises from the very substantially sophisticated emergence of lifestyle that is easy to criticise.
But, despite the fact he jokes about social things, the decency of men, politics and religion is intact. Initially, like every other writer, Subramanyam struggle begins with his career a radio artiste. That is when Doordarshan recognised his capability and asked him to join them as a voice cover and also the writer of play. His work was appreciated, and he began to rise in both work and glory.
One fine day, he gets himself into an argument with the director of the channel and out of intense speech demanded him to finance the serial that he writes and directs. For this purpose, the director asked him to submit two of his original works so that it becomes an appeal for him to finance and get those scripts in action. It is how Anando Brahma was born, for his submission; it was the part of two of those scripts along with Maryada Ramanna. It marked the rise of its author and created a ladder of success. Very soon the serial became known and famous among the population; the comedy element of the actions and languages involved made it likeable and renowned.
